In this bundle (ZIP file) you will find three different activities to learn about Cuba through literature and film.
1. Abuelito, ¿Qué cosa es Cuba? was published in a newspaper in Cuba. Students will (a) read this short work, which contains tons of references to Cuban places, people, events, foods, music, dances, etc.
(b) Individually research one of the references and present to the class.
(c) Re-read the work and answer questions. This would take about 1.5-2 days total on a normal bell schedule.
Included: A copy of the short work, a space for students to write notes, a Google Slides template for students to fill in with their research, and comprehension questions.
2. "Esteban" film vocabulary and comprehension questions. This film is available on HBO Now and showcases a young boy who wants to learn to play piano and overcome his humble roots. The film is 1.5 hours long. Answer key is included.
3. Balada de los abuelos - Nicolás Guillén (1902-1989) poem with a detailed glossary using images and Spanish definitions as well as Spanish comprehension questions.
