For this activity, students will read a letter from their pen pal in Cuba. They have to work backwards to write the questions that would have elicited their pen pal's response. This is a higher level thinking skill because students have a very hard time thinking backwards. Once they have their questions, they will write their pen pal the original letter that might have elicited the response that they are reading.
