This superbly designed Cubism and Fauvism Powerpoint centers on the art styles known as Cubism and Fauvism. The lesson starts with a Do Now for students to begin thinking about what they see, practicing the description portion of art criticism.
Students are introduced to the major characteristics of Fauvism and Cubism as well as two major Fauve artists (Henri Matisse and Andre Derain) and two major Cubist artists including Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Students are able to view and discuss a number of Fauve and Cubist paintings, understanding the styles of each artist and each art style as a whole. At the end of the presentation, there is an informal quiz to check for student understanding. They may answer independently or work as a group. Lastly, students are asked to reflect on their lesson, making a judgment on the style as a whole. More importantly they are asked to back up their opinion with valid reasons.
