My students have enjoyed writing horror stories and presenting them in class, radio-style, for several years. They need to create a short story, mainly in the present tense, using vocabulary to create a spooky atmosphere. They are given links to download free sound effects that will enhance their oral presentations.
The activity starts with the teacher modeling a story (included); afterward, students have to analyze its main elements and finally they create their own short horror story following the prompts given.
This activity is mainly recommended for secondary students in bilingual/dual programs or in Spanish as a Second/Foreign Language in High School. The oral and writing rubrics are based on the Alberta Education specific outcomes for Grade 9 Spanish L.A.
