If you are looking for a culminating project for a study of basic economics, then “Be an Entrepreneur” is for you! Included within this product, there is a vocabulary list of terms in basic economics that students need to understand before beginning the project. Also, there are instructions for the students for the project. The main part of the project is a step-by-step guide (in booklet form) for a team of students to describe a product they “create” or a service they offer. (I have found that teams of two work best.) Within this guide, students demonstrate through their writings and drawings their understanding of basic economics. Please remember that students do not actually create a product or perform the service but rather design a product/service on paper and describe/explain it in terms of various principles of economics. Further, a grading rubric is included, complete with a grading scale. I have used this project as an assessment tool for the standards that are addressed in economics. I think it works quite nicely for that. Typically, it takes about 3 class periods for students to complete the project.
I hope you and your students enjoy this simple, yet effective way to demonstrate their knowledge of basic economics.
* Please remember that this project is intended to be a culminating activity for a unit of study in economics. It is not meant to be a teaching unit in economics.
