The purpose of this activity is for students to write using the point of view of a Transcendentalist. This is a great formative assessment of students' understanding of the Transcendentalist philosophy. I use this task with my 11th grade English classes as a culminating writing activity after completing a literature unit on Transcendentalism. I created this activity after the tragedy occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School. You can choose the current event or allow your students to choose. This activity aligns with the ELA Common Core standards.
