This "flipbook" activity is an excellent culminating task for any piece of literature. My class completed it in the context of fairy tales.
Using 3 legal sized sheets of paper folded at various lengths and stapled together, you can create a booklet of 6 pages with 6 different categories. Alternatively, you can just create booklets with 3 sheets of paper folded in half.
In this package you will find:
*Instructions for the flipbook activity (each category offers students options - some are more challenging than others)
*Handouts to accompany the instructions regarding:
--> Literary Devices
--> Plot Diagram
--> Verbal-Visual Essay
--> Body Bio
--> Story Elements
*Revising and Editing Checklists for both writing options (alternate ending and writing a diary account from a character's point of view)
*Rubrics (for entire flipbook and both writing options)
*Images of sample flipbooks
*A great sample of a point-of-view writing sample is The Stepsister Speaks Out by Peg Kehret (can be found online for free)
Language strands evaluated in rubric include:
*Feel free to ask your students to present their flipbooks for an oral mark as well (or perhaps read their story aloud to the class - can be incorporated into drama as well).
