This is a mapping and reading unit. It includes 2 pdf files, one in letter size and one in tabloid size. The map of the 12 cultural areas is hand drawn with options to include a legend or not.
The readings are geared for late 3rd grade to 6th grade. Each cultural area is described in terms of climate, terrain, shelter, food and clothing. There are two pages of suggested uses that are appropriate for both Social Studies and Language Art reading.
Note: Although the text might be easy to read, this fits well with some of the BC Grade 7 curriculum questions:
-What types of strategies have different civilizations used to respond to similar challenges imposed by the physical environment?
-What advantages did agriculture have over the hunter-gatherer way of life?
Included are vocabulary/terms sheets in two sizes, Venn Diagram for comparing two regions, a chart for comparing three regions, a large chart for note taking all regions, maps for coloring with the written assignment, and a research template.
