Chances are if you are purchasing these task cards, you teach a diverse set of learners. First, you need to take a look at how you see the world and how it impacts the students in your classroom. By understanding yourself and how you view others is how you may better realize the importance of acknowledging all the cultures that represent the students in your class.
These cards represent questions that students can answer about themselves and their cultures to help you and their peers get to know them better. They can be used at the beginning of the school year as part of your get to know you activities or at another time that you deem appropriate.
I hope these task cards provide you with meaningful information about your students. My goal in creating them was for me to widen my understanding of the different cultures of the students that represent my class in the quest to get to know them better.
It was after much reading and researching to become a more culturally proficient teacher is why I created them.
I am not providing you with an answer key because there are no correct answers. These questions are designed for you to gain awareness and open up a discussion with your students on their culture and back round in the hope that you and your students gain a greater understanding of one another. Students can record their responses in a journal, share openly with a partner or the entire class. It is up to you. I have done it several ways and have even used them when I have conducted school workshops for teachers to help them become more culturally proficient.
I recommend that you laminate them so you can reuse them over and over again.
