This packet can be used as a packet or individually depending on the goals and available options for your class.
The written report can be used as an outline for the oral report. If you use the whole packet you could expect to take 5-20 minutes of explaining, 20-60 minutes of home time to interview a relative, 30-60 minutes to interview a person of another culture (can be done in class if you have enough people, or if you get some guest speakers to come in), then if the oral presentation option is chosen another 5-7 minutes per student for the report. For a class of 20 this could be from 25 minutes of class time to 3 hours and 40 minutes spread out over a week or so. You could arrange it to take all of the class time over a week if you have 45 minutes for this class. First day would be explaining the packet and letting students read it over and ask questions. Second day would be talking with someone from another culture. Third day would be working on reports in class. Fourth and fifth days would be doing oral reports. Spread out to two weeks would be better and you can fill the extra time with talks and videos of various cultures. Video talk can be followed by discussion, or bring in speakers to do a live presentation and a Q & A.
