This workbook guides students through articles and stories surrounding Disney/Pixar's Coco. Looking at sources from the New York Times to ABC News, student's are forced to think critically about the role film plays in various cultures, while examining content critically and discussing elements of cultural appropriation.
Students begin brainstorming on the impact of films on kids (among other discussion questions), later discuss the role of family and culture, gather background/research and finally examine the film completing 4 journal entries - reflecting on emotion, characters and the impact of such a film in our Chicano/Latino Ethnic Studies Course.
This workbook has been used successfully from 9-12th grade in our Ethnic Studies program, though could be covered for the use in studying Mexico, Latin America or Spanish.
