This year, in Spanish 2, I assigned a "Comunidad Autónoma" to each quarter, and 2nd quarter is Andalucía. I found this article about Sevilla's "Noche en blanco" which is a very cool night, once a year, dedicated to the arts, where everything is open all night long. It reminds me of a Black Friday for the arts (instead of competitive shopping!). I have students read this and answer questions, but I tell them that it is a tiny bit above their level of comprehension, that I want them to spend 25-30 minutes on it, and then that is it. They get as far as they can and stop. In class, I have them scan each paragraph and highlight the words they know (before they go home and complete the assignment) and get them guessing about what the article might be about, just as a way to preview the assignment. You could use it as a reading comprehension assessment if you wanted to.
You do not need any prior knowledge of Sevilla in order to assign this reading HW.
