Culture for middle and high school social studies classes! This culture bundle will provide you with hours of resources to use with your students. The following is a list of each product included in the bundle, with a short description. Each title is a link to the single product if you would like to see more detail.
This PowerPoint goes over the basics of culture. The worksheet goes along with the PowerPoint to help students take notes. The ppt addresses the definition of culture, aspects of culture, cultural diffusion, and popular and folk culture.
Note that there are two versions of the PowerPoint, one is fully editable while the other is more decorated and not very editable.
This assignment is for students to research one specific cultural region (probably an entire country, but you could break countries down into regions as well!). The worksheet provides a good guide with questions to be answered about the culture region and a place for students to keep track of resources they used to get their information. The end product is an informational brochure that students create to present their new knowledge about the cultural region they researched. This will require library books, encyclopedias, or internet access.
This is an assignment that asks students to research cultural traits, their hearths and their spread through the world. It will require internet access
This is a compare and contrast assignment. It is similar to making a Venn diagram, but instead students write the information in stanza format. I’ve included a few different ideas for using it in your class within the document itself.
This is a collection of assignments to be done after students have learned the basics of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. I’ve suggested that teachers assign group presentations on each one, but how you want to give your students the information ahead of time is up to you!
This sorting activity is to reinforce the basics of the above listed religions. Use it as a review, a pretest, or just a fun activity.
-Many of these assignments do require students to access the internet or library.
-I do not currently have a PowerPoint to give students information on each of the five religions, there will need to be some pre-teaching before using those assignments. I suggest group presentations :)
-I have noted that the teaching duration for this bundle is 2 weeks. Please understand that this is completely dependent on how much detail you require of your students and how you choose to teach the religion information. You could squeeze it into a week, or you could make it last even longer than 2.
