PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a wonderful meshing of an appreciation for students' own cultures and its folk literature; included is a day's lesson plan with a Circle of Power and Respect opening, an activator, mini lesson, activities, wrap up, and homework. The activities include a word wall as activator, a geography refresher, a research component and hand out with 12 research topic prompts, a TIC TAC TOE choice board on students' chosen folk tale from the culture of their ancestors, an interview for home work to facilitate parent/family involvement and interest as well as to help students understand their own unique culture and to celebrate it, and two extension activities--interviewing fellow students and a second word wall. In addition, the common thread of timeless heroic traits apparent in all folk literature are a connection between legendary heroes and the heroes students themselves can be in their own successful lives.
