This lesson is representational of being a culturally competent teacher. I love making all of my students feel welcome, safe, and proud of where they come from! This lesson is reading lesson about reading and decoding/understanding informational texts and their features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings).
This lesson can be adapted for any of the elementary grades, and even for older students, too!
The lesson includes embedded photos from the book I used and also PowerPoint slides from the lesson's PowerPoint so that you can see how I taught the lesson. You can be creative and change it up, too! I like teaching with visuals, but the delivery of the lesson is flexible.
The lesson also includes extensive supports for all types of learners (visual, auditory, kinesthetic).
