This zipfile includes the first chapters of the following novels:
I am Malala
Water Buffalo Days
I Will Always Write Back
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
Long Walk to Water
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
My Basmati Bat-Mitvah
A Long Way Gone
Along with these novel excerpts is a two-page handout that requires students to:
locate the setting of each novel
find vocabulary from the excerpt
analyze figurative language
explore cultural elements
compare and contrast our culture to the one presented in the novel
The hope is that students will be given a broader worldview and increased desire to explore the world through literature.

I did not create an answer key for this, but I do include a rescue station for students to use to help them find figurative language.
I also have included an overview for teachers as an example of my findings for the objectives on the student handout for the main novels that I use in my stations.
