Stacking and knocking down cups stands the test of time in the fun department! Why not add some learning to the mix with this versatile low prep activity? Both color and B&W versions are included to provide 55 pages of fun in each version. All 26 letters of the alphabet are included to extend the whole year for classroom teachers or SLPs who may want to create a year long center. Visuals are included to enhance learning for early readers. Incorporate math skills as well as students graph their results!
You will need 10 Plastic Cups- You can use the same cups for each letter because they will simply correspond the number on the cup to the word/task on the Letter Sound Activity Cards!
Print out the Numbers included in either the Color/B&W version. Glue or tape the numbers onto the cups. You can also simply write the numbers 1-10 on the cups with permanent marker if you would prefer.
The Full Color version can be used as either a No Print option by opening on an iPad/tablet or Printed and laminated for use with a wipe off marker. Boards can be printed double sided so that Graph and Say, Write It and Read It tasks are included on one card.
The Black & White version can be printed on white paper for easy copying for students. It can also be printed on bright paper if desired.
Have your students stack the numbered cups at the beginning of each turn. They can knock the cups down by rolling a ball, using a ball popper or tossing a ball./bean bag. The student will then use the picture assigned to that number on their sound mat to complete one or all of the tasks. For example, If Sally Student who is targeting /d/ knocks down cups numbered 1, 2 and 4, she will graph and say “D”, “dice” and “dog”. She may then write/trace “D”, “dice” and “dog” and/or read the corresponding sentences. These tasks can be completed individually while the next student takes a turn during group work.
You may also choose for each student to have their own set of numbered cups. Students can stack the cups in any number order. They do not necessarily have to stack the cups in number order. Students utilizing the no print version on the iPad can use an application that allows them to write on a photo to graph and write.
