Appeal to your students' sweet tooth by modeling how to complete an invoice and purchase order for a cupcake business. This activity is in Microsoft PowerPoint and provides step-by-step instructions to complete each of these two documents based on the scenario of a cupcake business. The PowerPoint contains mathematical totals that appear with animations after you've had time to share the thinking behind these answers or to allow time for students to calculate these totals on their own.
***Please note that this file does NOT include an invoice or purchases order, however, you can easily access a template in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. I recommend the first invoice and first purchase order listed when you do a template search in Microsoft Word. You could also copy and paste this invoice into a Google Doc to share with your class if you prefer the Google platform. If you don't have access to technology in your class, you can print out the template and have students complete it that way as well.
I use this activity as a modeling tool for invoices and purchase orders and then have my students complete an invoice and purchase order with a group in the Food Truck Financial Plan Project
. At the conclusion of the semester I have students complete a task-based Multi-Unit Business Simulation
demonstrating the skills they've learned throughout the semester such as the invoice.
