Just in time for the Winter Olympics, I have an opportunity for students to practice geometry using the dimensions of a curling "sheet". Many students will be watching curling for the first time this week, and it will be the talk of the hallways! Bring that discussion into the classroom and have students connect math with real world current events!
Topics included are: finding the area of rectangles and circles, circumference of circles, converting square units, the percent equation, and rounding.
I am including a step-by-step answer key along with a handful of teaching tips for this lesson. This could be done in class or given as a homework assignment.
