The population of Washington D.C. is over 600,000 people meaning they have no say in the decisions being made for the country.
Students will practice using this controversial issue from their Government class to formulate a pro or con persuasive position. The students are assigned a pro or con position and directed to read some articles that support that position. Based on the readings and their own opinions they must write position statement and then respond to classmates with opposing opinions. The emphasis of this lesson is being able to concisely, accurately and emphatically argue one’s point in a public forum.
