Product Description
This is a short current events lesson designed to create discussion about the government shutdown that began on 1 October 2013. Created on 7 October 2013, this lesson focuses on the effects of the shutdown, and it illustrates the current debate being waged between Democrats and Republicans about how to end this crisis.

THIS DOWNLOAD INCLUDES
1) PowerPoint Slideshow - lists background information, includes a link to the news story video, and guides the teacher through the discussion.
2) Student Worksheet - students answer the Who, What, Where, When, and Why questions, and they brainstorm reasons for why they agree with either the Democrats or the Republicans. This information can then be used to spark discussion and debate.
3) Answer Key
