I use this project for a semester-long sociology course. Every Friday, I assign two students to present on a current event or issue of their choice. Students are asked to summarize the issue, text-mark an article, make sociological connections, and present three discussion questions to the class. We do this every Friday and students look forward to this day. It is an easy-planning day for teachers and allows students to lead the conversation about issues that are interesting and important to them. A google presentation link with access to a google presentation template for the project is included for struggling students. A list of potential current event topics as well as a rubric are included. The rubric is aligned to Common Core standards. This project is a key component to all of the social studies electives I teach. Even if you don't teach Sociology you can edit it and adjust to another social studies elective. If you find this resource helpful, please post positive feedback! Thank you and enjoy!
