Every week, I choose a few articles from the news, format them for easy reading, and make a challenging 12 to 20-question multiple-choice quiz over the information in the articles. Packets generally range between 10-15 pages in total length and concern major stories from the previous week. I also include a version of the articles with highlighted information.
I usually post the article packets on Monday and have the quiz made by Wednesday evening. Follow this account to get notified when the next article packet and quiz get posted.
The articles cover both domestic and international events and are usually from publications such as The New York Times (the main source, generally), The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and The Week.
This week's articles:
Trump’s New Ban Leaves Few Spots for Refugees, Even the Hunted (El Salvadorian refugees) (NYT)
E.P.A. Chief Doubts Consensus View of Climate Change (NYT)
In a Place of Need, an Unhealthy Contradiction: They are poor, sick and voted for Trump. What will happen to them without Obamacare? (Washington Post)
For Brazil’s Zika Families, a Life of Struggle and Scares (NYT)
Along with keeping students updated on events, the weekly set of articles and quiz gives students great practice with reading informational texts and note-taking.
