One of the most requested lessons from my students is how to read and write in cursive. Considered by many to be a disappearing art, cursive is all around us in the real world and an incredibly important life skill for students to master. Whether they want to sign their name at the end of a form or read some notes left behind by a coworker, cursive is often one of the most overlooked real world skills in the classroom.
The amount of joy students feel when they can read and write in cursive is incredible. It helps them identify more as being an adult, and eases their transition into leading an independent life after high school more successfully. Scaffold their understanding and mastery of cursive with this easy to use, print and go packet!
How I Use These In My Classroom:
I often work with these packets in small groups and laminate them so they can be used often. We first start small group instruction and I hand out whiteboards to each student. I model one letter at a time and then have them draw it large on their whiteboard. We practice the movements until they are comfortable and fluid with them. I then pass out the laminated worksheets and have students practice duplicating the letters with vis a vis markers. Once students master a letter, they then practice the lowercase version of it until they move on to the next one and start the process all over again! After they are done with this unit, I pass out UNIT TWO (coming soon) and students practice understanding reading and writing words with their newly acquired skill!
- 26 worksheets where students practice writing CAPITAL cursive letters.
- 26 worksheets where students practice writing LOWERCASE cursive letters.
Each worksheet comes with a visual, one line with arrows to help students with movement, and 2 lines with dotted letters.
