This is an activity that has students estimate and measure using both customary and metric measurement of weight and length. Teachers may use objects of their choosing for the events, such as a paper plate and heavy plastic plate for the discus event, a cotton ball and softball for the shotput event, and two various sized balls for the laying long roll. Students will have a blast participating in the three kinesthetic events! Students also collect score data by analyzing classmate's scores and practice finding the mean of various data sets. Last, students use critical thinking skills to explain the effect that the weight of event materials had on the distance that was achieved. I've used this the past three years and my students and I love it!
