This colorful, engaging, and extensive Powerpoint presentation teaches the Customary and Metric Systems including the units of length for inches, feet, miles, yards, millimeter, centimeter, decimeter, meter, and kilometer. The Powerpoint theme is Finding Nemo, which is kept consistent throughout (visuals, examples, and questions all surround the theme!) Each slide contains excellent graphics that visually teach and compare each unit of measurement. Also imbedded within multiple slides are the links to online resources, including review games. (Note: must be in "view Powerpoint" mode to click on link and it will automatically redirect you to the online site). Included in the beginning is a child-friendly explanation of what the Metric System is and why it is important as well as a cute mnemonic device to remember the order of the units of measurement. The explanations for each unit of measurement include what types of objects would be appropriate to measure with it, many examples related to a students’ experiences, terrific visuals, and probing questions asked by Dory, the Powerpoint guide. The last 5 slides are dedicated to questions about correctly reading a measurement given a picture as well as multiple choice questions about which unit of measurement one would use to measure various objects (picture included).
