Get your students interacting and engaging with any novel with this customizable reading discussion quiz packet. Based on Socrative seminar methods, this packet allows teachers to customize the discussion quizzes or discussion seminars based on the specific literary elements in the novel they are teaching, as well as customize the grading and scoring. Anything can be changed -- but words/numbers listed in red are special items of note that you may want to customize for your unit of study.
The packet includes student handouts explaining how the discussion works, how points are scored and example point-scoring comments or behaviors. Also included is a customizable anticipation handout to use as a pre-quiz practice. There are grading sheets and chapter planning guides for you, as well as teacher tips on how to make the discussions run smoothly. Aligned Common Core standards are also included.
Students are asked to make inferences and analogies, provide textual evidence, ask engaging questions, and draw in quiet students, among other discussion comments. Students learn how to be good listeners and good discussers while thinking critically about a novel and its themes, symbols, characters and other literary elements.
The packet includes both a completely editable Word document, as well as an .rtf file.
