In this hands-on activity, students will cut out, organize and paste algebraic expression pieces onto a template. The activity will give students practice in factoring out a GCF from a trinomial, then factoring the resulting trinomial into two binomials.
My Algebra students had fun completing this activity. It provided a nice change of pace with their interactive student notebooks. Their exit tasks showed they were able to transfer their knowledge of factoring. I was pleased that on their exit slips, students did not make the common mistake of leaving the GCF out of the final answer, likely because they had to glue that piece down twice onto the template.
