Students are sure to be motivated by these ways-to-make-numbers cut and paste activities! They can be used as review, to assess, in math centers, whole class, and/or homework. The ways to make numbers included in this unit are: numbers, number words, ten frames, base ten blacks, cubes, hands, picture representations, and tally marks to match in the 1-30, 1-50, 1-100, and 1-120 number charts.
I provide lots of practice filling in the missing numbers then the students cut and paste the matching pieces to complete the charts. This process is very telling, and serves as a good assessment for students’ number sense. If you want to use the chart activities as non-consumables, copy both the charts and their corresponding pieces on card stock, laminate/cut and place in centers for students to put together.
The 100 and 120 charts are “built” by the students in chunks of 50 or 30 numbers, respectively. Each chunk is completed with a medley of the above ways to make the numbers. So the 1-50, 51-100, 1-30, 31-60, 61-90, 91-120 grids are pasted in order on a piece of construction paper, to be done over time, to build the 100 and the 120 charts. They can then be used as reference charts or review of the many ways to show the numbers!
