My kids always seem to need a little extra cutting practice at the beginning of the year. A great way to increase fine motor skills is to have them cut the straws they get in the cafeteria. Another great tip is to have them make a snake with play doh and have them cut that.
Over the years I’ve struggled with trying to get them to use 2 hands when cutting paper.
Now I use these strips. Print out the pages and cut them in half to save paper.
#1Have the kids color the pictures.
#2 Cut on the dotted line. Make sure your kids place their thumb on the picture.
This ensures that they will use 2 hands.
I’ve have had great success with these strips. It give the kids a visual cue to place their thumb on the picture. You can start by printing this on cardstock, then move to construction paper and eventually to copy machine paper.
Best of luck!!! Della
