This Document Based Question (DBQ) can be used in many ways from test review to a substitute teacher lesson.
The topic looks at the legacy of Ancient Egypt through trade routes, natural resources, geography, art, technology, religion, labor, architecture and science. It follows the format of the New York State social studies testing requirements for writing DBQs. The DBQ packet has 9 pages total, 6 pages are questions stemming from 7 primary or secondary source documents with works from the Hymn of the Nile, the Book of the Dead, and The Satire of the Trades. The sources include one map, two images and two photos. Each document is followed by at least one constructed response question and a summary essay question using the documents wraps up the DBQ.
I’ve left the DBQ as a Word Document so that you can add more space for writing answers as needed.
This DBQ addresses the Common Core State Standards. It has been updated with a page outlining the English Language Arts/History/Social Studies grades 9-10 as outline at http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RH/9-10
