Introduction: In 1917 the last emperor of Russia, Tsar Nicholas II, was deposed and his government overthrown by a Communist Revolution led by Vladimir’s Lenin’s Bolshevik Party. The Bolsheviks’ first promise to the Russian people was to end their disastrous involvement in World War 1. The Allied Powers found this development problematic for many reasons, and attempted to defeat the newly formed Bolshevik forces on the battlefield. This would be the only time that American forces were deployed to fight on Russian soil.
