This document-based question explores Chinese history, specifically the periods of the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) and the Great Leap Forward (1958-1961). Seven primary and secondary source documents look at Mao Zedong’s ideas, Communism, Marxism and changes that moved to change traditional Chinese culture. The sources include two photographs and two posters. Each document is followed by at least one constructed response question and a summary essay question using the documents wraps up the DBQ.
It follows the format of the New York State social studies testing requirements for writing DBQs and can be used in many ways from standardized test prep, lesson review review or as a substitute teacher lesson.
I’ve left the DBQ as a Word Document so that you can add more space for writing answers as needed.
This DBQ addresses the Common Core State Standards. It has been updated with a page outlining the English Language Arts/History/Social Studies grades 9-10 as outline at http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RH/9-10
