This close reading exercise is not a full DBQ, but rather a close reading lesson with stations designed for group rotation. 8 passages from the "grievance" section of the Declaration of Independence are included as documents to analyze, which should provide plenty of variety for your groups of 3 or 4 students. Why were the colonists so upset? What led to the inclusion of so many of these grievances' cures in the U.S. Constitution? This exercise is perfect for a 45-50 minute class while allowing for 3 rotations and whole class discussion, however, it can be spread easily over two periods.
Because document analysis sheets can vary, there is not one included in this Power Point. The slides with documents can be copied and reproduced for use in the classroom.
