This Document Based Question (DBQ) can be used in many ways from standardized test prep and review to a substitute teacher lesson.
The topic looks at the many islands in the Pacific Ocean before European arrival. It follows the format of the New York State social studies testing requirements for writing DBQs. The DBQ packet has 9 pages total, 7 pages are questions stemming from 7 primary or secondary source documents. The sources include 4 photographs, 1 illustration and 1 map. Each document is followed by at least one constructed response question and a summary essay question using the documents wraps up the DBQ.

I’ve left the DBQ as a Word Document so that you can add more space for writing answers as needed.
This DBQ addresses the Common Core State Standards. It has been updated with a page outlining the English Language Arts/History/Social Studies grades 9-10 as outline at http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RH/9-10
