This DBQ helps students answer the question “Why did the South lose the Civil War?” It includes a background essay to help establish context, seven documents (charts, graphs, political cartoon, letters, etc.), and a graphic organizer to assist in organizing documents and writing a thesis. Analysis questions are provided for the background essay and all documents to assist students in understanding each. (Analysis questions can be removed for more advanced students). A teacher key is provided with suggested answers to all analysis questions and to the graphic organizer.
This DBQ can be a supplement to your Civil War unit, or the lens through which you teach the unit itself.
