This fun little lab is a great way to teach your Earth Science students not only about density but also about the order of planets in the solar system. This lab requires very little set up and allows your students to do some simple math and apply concepts of density to the solar system. Your kids will be drawing, coloring, measuring, doing some math, graphing, analyzing data and identifying the variables of their experiment.
I found that my students really enjoyed this lab. It permits some creative freedoms but also provides experimental structure. Those students who struggle at math will actually see math equations at work for a purpose.
Scientific and Engineering Practices: developing and using models; use math and computational thinking; obtaining, evaluating and communicating information
