CONTENT
Students will work digitally on the following 4 main activities:
Four tasks that facilitate an understanding of what it means to budget wisely.
a. My Lucky Week
Planning expenses with no relation to income. Students get a feel of expenses
and work with whole and decimal numbers to calculate total cost.

b. On a Budget
Planning expenses in relation to a stipulated income. Students need to determine how to
best budget to keep their expenses less than the given income.

c. Reaching My Goal
Planning expenses in relation to a given income and achieving a short term goal. Students
work out a spending plan to achieve a short-term goal.

d. My Personal Budget
Drawing up a personal budget plan on the basis of personal income received and wants. students determine the feasibility of a budget plan through constructed reflection.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
⭐ Creation of Bar Graphs to show differences and comparisons in expenditure for the budgeting activities. Graphs are linked to charts in Google sheets. Students will be able to input their data to automatically reflect graph creation. Instructions are in the slide notes pane.

⭐ Making wise choices from the Dream Collection Catalogue to achieve a short term goal.

⭐ Constructive reflection on a budget plan with emphasis on spending patterns.

⭐ Self-assessment, peer assessment, and teacher assessment using rubrics as a tool.

REQUIREMENTS
⚫ This is a digital resource and can be used with google drive, Microsoft one drive and google slides. Both teacher and students need to create a google account or a one drive account. This is a free service and is easy to set up.

⚫ This resource can also be assigned to your students via Google Classroom by accessing your drive and inserting (click on drive/attachment icon) the google drive file. Select the option of 'make a copy for each student'.

⚫ This resource can also be assigned to your students via OneDrive after which they may choose to edit the presentation in online mode or in PowerPoint (Microsoft Office). Full instructions in file.

SETUP
When you click on the provided link, you will be prompted to make a copy. Click on the ‘make a copy’ button in order to access the file. Re-name the file by editing the text on the title bar to read the new file name, example, ‘Master Copy Budgeting‘. Further detailed instructions included in file.

EVIDENCE OF LEARNING
→ Once students have completed their work, they may save their file in a created class folder on the computer, or onto a removable digital device. To do so, students need to access ‘’File>download as’ option and make their selection from the given options. They can also submit their report via generating the ‘share’ link.

→ Each completed activity maybe viewed and presented to the class by accessing view>present mode.

→ To print, access ‘File> Print Preview’ from the menu bar.

This unit teaches students real-life budgeting skills. Students will become more aware of their spending habits in order to reach a short, medium or even long term goal. The integration of technology makes this unit all the more interesting. Tasks are simple and fairly straightforward for students to comprehend and work on independently.
