INDEPENDENT Word Work!
Each week will look very similar to the FREEsample
except this focus is on DIGRAPHS. [consistent]
so students know how to complete the activities [independently]
These hands-on activities are designed to provide children with Engaging, Purposeful, Independent,
word work for 15 minutes each day. With these activities, children get the opportunity to trace, blend, build, decode, and write words with a focus on sh-, ch-, th-, wh- sounds (digraphs).
If you are running Daily 5 or literacy centers in your classroom, “word work” is a perfect time for students to complete these activities. Students’ pacing will range, but each activity usually takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. There are 6 activities and 1 assessment. You can choose which activities are best for your differentiated groups. These activities can also be used as homework, a whole group word work time, or morning work.
Keep each week on ONE page of a journal or notebook! Each new activity gets glued on top of the previous one so students can easily look back at the words of the week! Currently, my students glue one new page on top each day and keep them in their book “baggies” during Daily 5!
