This is a 19 slide READY-TO-USE LESSON (no prep) PowerPoint presentation lesson that covers the topic of DIVERSITY, TOLERANCE, & APPRECIATING UNIQUENESS that is based on the book, Eggbert, by Tom Ross. Included are links to 7 videos to support the information you are presenting. These are videos that you can mix or match or even skip if you want.
Concepts covered include:
• Ways we are diverse (physical, mobility, sight, intellectually, belief systems, etc.)
• Reasons for diversity
• Ways we can be tolerant
• Appreciating the differences in others
• Perfection is not possible, so appreciate one’s failures, etc.
The beauty of being able to personalize this lesson for yourself is that it is easily adapted to teach different levels ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. There are 7 videos that support the concepts. One of the videos is the book, Eggbert, being read aloud by Counselor Bev. The rest of the videos are thought-provoking and entertaining ways to think about diversity, tolerance, and appreciating the differences between ourselves and others.
I have found that videos are very effective in helping students to create an emotional link to the abstract concepts that character education involves. Coupled with discussions in which you can assist students to make the connection, it is an easy and effective way to teach these difficult concepts and assist students to internalize them into their own personalities.
Character education is vital to the success of our students. Employers report that the qualities for which they are looking when hiring include the “soft skills” that are character education.
This presentation includes 19 slides which have music, transitions, clip art, and animations to help to hold your students' interest. It is easily personalized and customized and includes a master slide that you can copy and paste into the location where additional information is desired.
You may want to rearrange the slides to make this presentation fit your needs. I have them arranged the way that makes sense for my students, but that may not be the best way for you.
