Here is a 2-page handout to be used when learning how to divide fractions. Students with/without teacher guidance complete the 4-column table by analyzing the food sharing problem. There are 12 problems:
6 require finding the quotient/amount each person gets after sharing
4 require finding the divisor/number of people who are sharing
2 require finding the dividend/amount of food to be shared
This can be used for independent or cooperative work,as homework, or as an introductory lesson done collectively (perhaps worked through up on a Smartboard).
***THIS CAN BE A SOMEWHAT CHALLENGING HANDOUT DEPENDENT ON A FIRM CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF FRACTIONS. IT IS ESSENTIAL TO PROVIDE THAT UNDERSTANDING BEFORE OR DURING THE ADMINISTRATION OF THIS WORKSHEET***
***THERE IS AN INHERENT ELEMENT OF ALGEBRA WITHIN THIS ACTIVITY TO FOCUS ON (FIND THE MISSING VARIABLE) IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO SO***
