Do you need to teach writing? This is the answer: A DIY writing course suitable for writing instructors, classroom teachers, and parents of students in grades 3-8.
This nine-Workshop course makes the art of creating a personal narrative a step-by-step, stress-free process that is easy to teach -- and easy for students to follow.
By the course's end, each student will have a complete, revised personal narrative. They will have learned the characteristics of a personal narrative, studied how to write hooks and endings, used paragraphs and transitions, brainstormed sensory details, and given their narratives a thorough edit for both content and mechanics.
Two rubrics (one for content and one for mechanics), along with pages for specific feedback, are provided for the instructor.
Each Workshop also comes with a game or activity that ties in to the content of that Workshop.
This course is adaptable for the age/abilities of your students, and also for length. Each Workshop should last 45 min-1 hour. The entire course can be completed in 2 weeks if followed every day, or over a six- to nine-week period if used as a weekly course.
In all you will receive:
*20 pages of instructor notes & FAQs
*67 pages of student materials divided into nine Workshops. This includes games and activities, reference materials, assignment materials, sample narratives, and in-class work/discussion materials.
*5 pages for instructor feedback/ gradeable rubrics for final project
