Doing Laundry is part of Susan Traugh's Daily Living Skills workbook series offering transitional skills for special needs and general education students alike. Written on a high third grade level, with airy-pages and bullet-point information, these transition skills books, nevertheless, respect teens' maturity and humor while presenting federally mandated transition skills and Indicator 13 requirements needed for adult independence. Each transition lesson is taught on one or two pages with follow-up worksheets/activities to check comprehension. Real world activities are provided whenever possible.

Doing Laundry--Daily Living Skills subjects include:

  • Using the washer/dryer
  • Use of products
  • Cleaning lint traps
  • Folding clothes/finding symmetry
  • Hanging clothes
  • Clothes storage
  • Handling special clothing

A Parent Notification Letter to meet federal mandates for family involvement, answer key, and grading sheet are all included with the 36-page booklet. The Parent Notification Letter assures you are in compliance with federal requirements for parent participation in IEP and ITP goals.

However, this series has also been successfully used by both general education classes in both middle- and high-school, and, with modifications, can be used in the moderate-to-severe setting also.

Each of the other books in the series offers the same easy-to-use format on key skills. Together, the series provides students with a firm foundation in adult living skills, and you the verification that you have effectively met mandated transition skills for your students. Both Cleaning House and Making Meals have a video series (offered free of charge on this site) to coordinate with the lessons of the book. A Teacher's Manual (sold separately) provides tips on organizing and setting-up a transition program, pre- and post-test assessments, class grading sheets, written ITP goals for each workbook to plug into annual IEP's, and code numbers and definitions for federal transition standards for each book.

A Powerpoint presentation is available free on this site to introduce your class/parents/administrators to the program.
