DNA is the blueprint of life, but how exactly does the process of protein synthesis work? This is a packet of activities that guide students toward understanding how DNA guides the building of amino acids, then peptides, then proteins.
The packet includes an "Amino Acid" alphabet based on codons. This "secret codon" is used to find the answers to some very corny jokes. Then students can use the special "amino acid binder paper" to create a strand of DNA bases that spells their name using codons.
The packet also includes a reading page about codons and a crossword puzzle to review the ideas and vocabulary found in that reading page. In addition, there is a key that decodes the jokes.
Finally, five brain stretching activities are provided for students who finish quickly or need a challenge.
