Are you looking for a better assessment for DOL? I was tired of having the kiddos look for incorrections in sentences, so I made my own assessments.
These DOL assessments are reproducible. You can print them blank and fill them in. I write the sentences or the skills in and just copy them for my students. The rubric is right there in front of them. If they do everything correct they should receive the 3. If they attempt and are close they should receive the 2. If they at least try the skill they should receive a 1.
There are two assessment options. On the first one, construct an incorrect sentence and then correct it. Let them explain why the corrections were needed. On the second one, fill in as many skills (you used during the week) as you want them to use (ex: appositive, irregular plural noun, etc) and then have them construct the sentences using those skills correctly. You can give them a topic that the paragraph must relate too as well. I use the second one far more than the first, but both are better than just looking for grammar mistakes!
