This is a great game for fun and developing vocabulary. It is a favourite for my kids and I play it everyday in my intervention sessions because I have developed the game for all levels of literacy learning. That way you can differentiate easily. All the games in Phase 6 (except for OPPOSITES) are uniform in size and you can mix sets to target specific skill deficits.

In a classroom you could also add games to a Literacy Centre as well as using them for RTI. Teach your RTI students how to play and then let them teach the rest of the class. This will do wonders for their confidence.

This bundle addresses the needs of kids who have all the basic phonic elements but are not becoming proficient readers. Their fluency is usually low. This affects comprehension and they guess at words, often getting the first syllable correct. Again, this affects comprehension levels. No wonder these kids don't like reading much.

The answer is skill building and doing it with a good book. These kids need a real book that they can get interested in. See "The Literacy Intervention Handbook" for ideas if this sounds like any of the kids you teach.

Playing games AND using a range of supportive reading strategies helps develop reading skills. These games teach but they also add the fun that some kids need, especially when reading is hard work. My games are laminated and they last for years this way.
