Product Description
This package includes 8 card games with 45 cards in each game:
--- CCC beginnings
--- CCC endings
--- vowels modified by r
--- Silent letters (2 sets)
--- ow (cow) and ow (low)
--- adding y to make an adjective
--- CCC, oke, ock, ook, diphthongs oi, oy and ou
--- Directions for play

The PREVIEW includes word lists for all games in this phase and allows you to check that the words used meet your needs.

The Phase 4 package is similar to previous packages with rhyming pairs, so it promotes phonological awareness of different letter patterns by rhyming. In Phase 4 the patterns are more complex and Silent Letters are introduced. The animal theme continues but there is no correlation between the picture on each card and the word, ensuring the student is decoding the word and not bypassing the word to recognise the picture. Some rhyming words look nothing alike (e.g., 'ache' and 'make', 'bird' and 'word') further developing decoding skills with more complex letter patterns.

Students love the fun element of this game and older students tend to stretch the game out by taking a letter of the word DONKEY each time they lose. This way the game lasts longer and the enjoyment increases as the players get nearer to the Y (meaning they have lost a total of 6 games). You can mix players of different ability levels by changing the rules to everyone saying the words on the cards that are laid down in the centre of the table, rather than in front of each player.

This is a great game to add to a Literacy Centre and it is perfect for Intervention. I find my students like to play the game over and over. As they tire of the one game (by which time they know the words well), we move on to a different set. It is a fun way to begin or end an intensive Intervention session.
