This package includes three sets:
--- 5 games at Phase 1 - CVC and CVCC words
--- 7 games at Phase 2 - CCVC and CCVCC (short vowels) plus long vowel digraphs
--- 7 games at Phase 3 - ar, ay, magic e, two sounds of c and g plus vowel y
--- Word lists in preview for all card games
Please note: The pictures on the cards DO NOT match the words. Players must decode the word to play.
I have combined these three sets in a package for those of you who have this range of differentiation in your early years. I use them for intervention, so I am always refining my resource collection to reflect the range of learners I see. I have changed my word lists over the years and this current list reflects the fact I have added games and added more variety and changed the animal pictures to keep my kids hooked.
My family played lots of card games when I was a child, and I know how much fun they can be. The old DONKEY card game adapts well to the younger grades and once kids know how to play, they will want to play more and more. This is the beauty of games with intervention. They will want to play over and over, and this is just what RTI is - skill building over time. They won't notice the repetition they need. They will just be having fun.
The range I have presented in this package means you can differentiate and put some games in a Literacy Centre or target ability groups in your rotations. It can be played independently so teaching your RTI groups means you can give them the responsibility of showing the others how to play. Great confidence building!
The word lists in the PREVIEW are given so you can check spelling. I am Australian and although I see American spelling all the time, some may slip through. Check them and let me know if I've missed one.
I have been teaching for over 30 years. These resources are the result of developing what I know works, especially for struggling readers. I have written 'The Literacy Intervention Handbook' to help you identify the needs of all learners in your class and to be able to target the specific skills needed for progress in reading. There are screeners for the range of learners in your class and handy tips for grouping, reading activities and tracking.
