The DONKEY Card Game consists of 22 rhyming pairs of CVVC words and a DONKEY card to provide the fun. The cards are illustrated so they can be used for explicit teaching, decoding the words and matching rhyming pairs. The game is a component of my PICTURES for Letter Tiles product which targets phonemic awareness. The pictures used are the same.
The words used are: laid/paid, fail/jail/nail/rail/sail/tail, pain/rain, bait/wait, bead/read, beak/leak, meal/seal, seam/team, beat/seat, seed/weed, heel/peel, deep/jeep/peep/weep, feet/meet, tied/died, pies/ties, load/road, boat/coat/goat/moat, duel/fuel
Word pairs can be omitted without it affecting the game. There is a quick, five-minute version or a longer one depending on time constraints. It is a very popular game with my students and they want to play over and over. It's this motivation and repetition that leads to learning.
I have included the Triple P Screen for Phonics, Phonology and Phonemics.
