Product Description: D.U.C.K.S. is a reading annotation strategy for grades 3-5. The following product contains three versions of the strategy: the inline version, the fiction version, and the nonfiction version. With the inline version, students annotate directly on the reading passage itself. With the fiction/nonfiction versions, students annotate on the back of the reading passage.
Suggested Use: Find an appropriate reading passage for your students. I highly recommend using the Daily Reading Comprehension series by Evan-Moor. Make double-sided copies, with the reading passage on one side and the D.U.C.K.S strategy on the other (you choose which version of the D.U.C.K.S. strategy to use). Start by reading the entire passage, and then use the D.U.C.K.S. strategy to analyze the passage. After completing the D.U.C.K.S. strategy, students will be better prepared to answer comprehension questions.
